Toronto Public Library Website
Homepage: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/
- vast majority of the page is links to other pages; are these regular links or image links? How manageable is this with screen-reader or keyboard only (tabbing order, ability to tell where you are in the page, ability to bypass, etc.)?
- contains a pane of light grey on dark grey text - is the contrast too low perhaps?
Your Account: https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/youraccount
- are the fields titled? Is there alt-text for the the "sign in" button? Are there prompts?
Hours and Locations: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/hours-locations/index.jsp
- has a searchable map with all locations of TPL; is this content presented in an alternate form? Is it possible to find your closest location without using the map feature (e.g. for low-vision users)?
Using the Library: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/using-the-library/
- contains video; presence of captions, script, alt-text, etc.
Books, Videos, Reserach & More: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/books-video-music/
- need to test the functionality of the search-bar
- contains some descriptive images - alt-text?
Computer & Library Training: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/programs-and-classes/categories/computers-library-training.jsp
- contains drop-down menu to search by location; does this content still work with keyboard only?
New Adult Fiction: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/books-video-music/new-items.jsp?category=Adult%20Fiction
- this is a good sample of what a typical 'search' results page would look like - how easy is this to navigate with screenreader or keyboard only?
- contains some descriptive images, some links, some quite small text, a drop-down menu to filter results
Accessibility at Library Branches: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/accessibility/branch-equipment/
- images, links, etc.
Toronto Reference Library: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/detail.jsp?Entt=RDMLIB018&R=LIB018
- sample library page
- contains maps/directions/etc. info 'hidden' in five in-page tabs; can I navigate this feature with screenreader or keyboard?
- all the library pages have special icons (e.g. the wheelchair for accessible libraries) - do these have alt text?
- contains a table (with hours); do all the rows and columns have meaning, is it titled, etc.?
Book a Librarian: https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/book-a-librarian/
- contains a form with input fields, some drop-down menus, etc.
- are all of these adequately labelled? do they have helpful hints? are error messages helpful? etc.
Overall formatting/content present on entire website:
Contrast - overwhelmingly, light text (white) on dark (navy) backgrounds, and vice versa, with a few minor exceptions to be examined
Text - majority of pages are full of links to other pages on the website, or other sources entirely; need to make sure they are in functioning, in context, etc.
Dynamic content - the mass drop-down menu-header present on all pages; its functionability in alternate methods (keyboard, screen-reader), ability to bypass
