Lesson 1: Getting Started with Web Accessibility Auditing
Task: Choose 5 personas from the article, ‘An Alphabet of Accessibility Issues’ and for each personas, explain a potential accessibility issue that such a person may have difficulty with.
D – Colour Blind: Individuals who are colour blind may have a hard time accessing information given through charts and graphs, due to not being able to differentiate certain colours.
G – Dyslexia: Individuals with dyslexia may have a hard time accessing content on websites, due to having difficulty reading text on screens due to small lettering and letter spacing.
N – Poor Hearing: Individuals who are hard of hearing or deaf may not be able to access all the information on a website, such as videos, if they do not have closed captions as an option.
S – Raynaud’s Disease: Individuals with raynaud’s disease may have difficulty accessing websites due to not being able to control a computer mouse or keyboard when their hands become extremely cold and numb.
T – Learning Disability: Individuals with learning disabilities may have a hard time comprehending the information given to them on the websites due to long complex sentences and they may prefer to listen instead of reading which may not always be an option.
